Around town

It was kind of funny to see this gentleman ride his lawn mower to the gas station and fill up.  Love small town America!
Our flowers have bloomed in the beds in front of the house and look really pretty.

Rodeo

Our Bishop was one of the Policemen presenting this huge flag - he is a county sheriff reserve officer.
bare back bronco riding!  There were six bulls in the bull riding event and NOT one cowboy stayed on!
It was fun to attend a rodeo again - been many years since we have had the opportunity.

Rodeo Parade

This week was the Fair and Rodeo - beginning with a Parade on Thursday morning - Dad was the driver to get about 40 residents from his facility to the parade - all he did was drive back and forth!  I was mentoring so we attended near where the State Home residents were - it was a pretty good parade for a small town like Lewistown.   Not sure what a Una-Fom is but we have one of three in the whole world!
Latest in hay baling - those huge round rolls of hay are put on the back of a pick up truck and one man can feed the whole herd - the hay unrolls in measured bunches - pretty cool.
I love the old fashioned ways of going to town - at least in a parade!

Salmon from AK

Sam went fishing and caught this salmon - - then froze it and packed it in dry ice and over-nighted it to us!
We are having it for Sunday dinner this week and there is so much we will enjoy it for a long time.  Thanks so much - caught with love, I'm sure!

Primary Class

The two Sunbeams on the right and left of this picture are the whole Primary class I have been subbing in for over a month - the one in the middle was a visitor last week.  The lesson was on our extended family loving us.
We played a game about being Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle and Cousins - they had to choose a hat to be that person and then we marched around the room in the hats ... 40 minutes is a long time for a Sunbeam lesson!

Pocatello Idaho House

This is a week late - but here is the Pocatello house with Joel and Kate in front - we had a good time working on it with them.
More of the yard that needs about a year of TLC!!

Half Time Entertainment

Half time entertainment was this sweet drum band - with buckets!  It was funny and they were really good!
Notice the bass 'drum' big barrel 'bucket' - made us all laugh and cheer.

Roller Derby

Here we are at the 'Montucky Derby' - in our fancy hats!  - got us front row seats.
The Galatin Girlz warming up - split the team into black (Twisted Sisters) and green (Truama Queens) groups - Julie's in the green one.
Julie in action ... she is an awesome blocker - voted MVP blocker in the bout!

Scope Shopping

At the Sportsman's Warehouse in Bozeman we went scope shopping.  There was this traveling exhibit of record setting deer from the western states - pretty interesting as we waited for the scope to be mounted.

Good Morning Buck

Most of the deer we see around town and our own yard are does - and fawns this summer.  One morning last week I went out to get in the car and go to work and this back was standing behind the car.  I grabbed the camera in my purse but he walked next door ... that's the neighbors to the east chain link fence. At least I got his picture.
As I drove down the alleyway he took off toward the hospital parking lot - fun sight to see in the morning.

Bull Ride

We were able to help a young family pack a trailer to move this Saturday.  We've seen lots of Rocking Horses but this family - of four boys - have a Bucking Bull!!  I asked the oldest to get on it for a picture and he raised his hand like the Rodeo cowboys do!!

Picture of the entry way into their neat house.  They have remodeled it and have just a little bit to go before they sell.  They moved to a rent to boy place out in the country with much more land.
Pretty chest hand made.  Bottom is of the old lathing that is in the walls - built to last!

Fun Ideas

These are fun ideas from a summer magazine in the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Office.  I made these balloon balls with a nine year old this last week.  Turned out easy and fun and delightful to play with - can you follow the directions?  if not I will provide them.  Haven't been able to try the KoolAid colored pickles but they look cool and tasty!
I posted a picture of our mailboxes with snow and ice cycles so here is one with beautiful lilac bushes behind them.

Happy Fourth of July

Here is the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Facility Van full of clients and the banner that Harold and I held in the Lewistown Parade...the Missionaries had bags of candy and tossed it to children along the route...8 blocks down Main Street!  The missionaries came to dinner on Tuesday and their directions for the Fourth were to be visible downtown - so Dad asked them to help us throw candy for the State Home - and they did.  The staff know them anyway - they visit a couple of members there often.  It was fun.
There was free ice cream at the Fergus County Museum - so in honor of Emilee we went there.  There are some 100+ year old wedding dresses .. plus the stories of their use.
Three brothers got married the same day - neat story!
Jake Rattlesnake - and his desperado partner came into town -Lewistown- on the 4th of July 1884.  They were drunk and started shooting at anyone on the street - hit and killed an innocent bystander - Ben Smith! and then the town sheriff and deputies shot them... pretty sad story.
In honor of Polly, Jennie, Julie and Lindsey (and all teachers)- here is the old schoolhouse - no ghosts in this own like the one at Bannock, near Dillon!  I have some of the books on the desks!!

In honor of Heidi, Ben and all nurses - these are from the old Saint Joseph's Hospital - I think you would lose the baby in the six foot long dress!
Here is the parade from the top of the hill - the 'float' in front of us was a nice black pickup truck - with the Princess of Winifred (small town near here) in it!  Gotta love living in Montana - were the Princess rides in a pickup truck!
