Fish Hatchery

Last week we also visited the fish hatchery - here are some of the raceways full of fish.

These are the huge ones that you can feed for .5 cents
our car with the huge lilac bushes behind it - smelled wonderful!

Mountain Man Rendezvous

The Snowy Mountains Muzzleloaders held their Mountain Man Rendezvous about 11 miles out of town, up in the mountains.  Here is the 6 year old I mentor and myself with a Mowhawk Indian.  I asked if we could have a picture with him and he quickly agreed.  After he had left, the little girl asked me: "how did you know he was an Indian?"  I took the nine year old Friday morning and the six year old Friday afternoon.
On Saturday I talked Harold into going - he only wore the bandana for the picture!
A family in the Ward cooked the dutch oven dinner - Ed and Sandy Hansen and three of their grandchildren.

Father's Day

We drove an hour south to Big Timber, Stan drove an hour east of Bozeman and met us there.  The boys gave their Dad a deer hunting gun for Father's Day.
He was surprised and very pleased!  Nice work Stan, Kurt and Sam!!
Riddick rode shotgun for Stan.

American Legion Flag Burning

Our local paper said that the American Legion would have a Flag Burning Ceremony at the Fairgrounds on Friday evening at 6:00 PM - We wanted to be a part of it.  When we got there - this is what we saw.
A local man made this incinerator to burn the flags quickly - it was pretty neat.
A black oil substance dripped from the bottom into a container - most of the flags are polyester and they are made of oil and when burned the oil returns!

More Old Stuff (besides us!)

More old stuff - the toys were fun.
 old car and trucks
Washing machine - wooden wringer between two wooden barrel tubs - yikes!

Pioneer Power - old fashioned farming

Big steam tractor - it's whistle sounded just like a steam train engines!
Barrel train pulled by an old tractor - free for kids who could fit in the barells!
Threshing the old fashioned way - tractor hooked up to run the belt that ran the thresher.
Ma and Pa Smith at the thresher!!

Airport Fly a Way

Here are a few of the small planes that flew into Lewistown Saturday for the Fly-a-Way.  Kids could sign up with parents permission for a free airplane ride ... they were taking off and landing all day!
Homeland Security and Border Patrol chopper - pretty neat.

More Cheadle Hall

Lots of people enjoying the good food and fellowship.
Cheadle Hall from a distance - it is on a dirt road.
This is how it looks from the highway.
some people brave enough to dance.
Sister Allen playing and signing - the kids would climb up and watch and then get down and dance!

Cheadle Hall

Friday night we drove to GlenGarry Road - 17 miles east of Lewistown and attended a potluck and dance at the old Cheadle Hall.  It had been a military building originally and then a fire house, some other things and now a community center.  Some members of the church live near it and sponsored the event to help pay for electricity to keep it going.
This old store had U.S. Army stamped on top of it.
Some good country and western signing and playing - notice the old upright piano - like the one we used to have - tipped out of Bro. Biolo's truck in Green Bay.
The kitchen had this old wood burning stove - and no running water!  Water was in the milk can you can see on the floor at the right of the stove.

GRANDchildren

Sadie found my old blue crocks - what a sweet girl!
Olivia liked playing with the coconut bowl and spoon from Jamaica.
Here Olivia is putting 'salt' and 'pepper' into her 'recipe'!!
It was so delightful to have grandchildren living in the downstairs bedroom for a couple of days - not nearly long enough!!  hope more can come at anytime.
Fairbanks left to camp out in Yellowstone on their way back to Salt Lake...sure loved having them here.

Bears at the Bank

The First Bank of Montana has these stuffed bears in their lobby - pretty neat, huh?

Bowling at Snowy Lanes

For FHE we went bowling - it rained most of the time the Fairbanks were here, so we had to change our plans for foil dinners in the mountains! Here Lindsey is helping Sadie - such fun.
Dan helping Olivia - I think the bumper lanes helped us all!

More Cupcakes

Yummy cupcakes - lots of help frosting them!  Olivia is really good at using the sprinkles bottles.
Sadie would frost a graham cracker and then like all the frosting off and frost it again - notice the frosting face!
This is what happens when you go on vacation and Grandma lets the three year old have the camera for a little while - nice relaxing Sunday afternoon!

Family Home Evening with the Fairbanks

The girls loved playing in Dad's old toy box - really old!  I like having some toys for little ones that visit.
We all attended our Lewistown Ward - I was asked to teach Sunbeams this week and Olivia was in the class with two little boys - tons of fun!
After Church, Olivia and I made cupcakes for everyone to enjoy.  Notice my Mother's Day flowers still pretty - I take out the dead ones each day!
